Default Bullitt Mustang update

Well, I got to see the Bullitt at the Amelia Island Concours. Being a volunteer, I figured I had all day to find a way to drive it.

From before the show began, before sun up I plied my plan at the Hagery display which featured the Bullitt ... drinking Hagerty's coffee and eating a Hagerty donut.

My first try was to inform them that only a member of the official Concours Tow Team could drive the car on and off the show field. (I figured we could get five or six members of the tow team into the Bullitt and head down A1A. The Hagerty crew wasn't buying it.)

I had to sharpen my efforts.

As the show wound down, show honoree Emerson Fittipaldi's event center piece Mclaren had to be towed from its position on the field to the Ritz ballroom for display that evening. An unbelievable opportunity! As I towed the priceless race car past the Hagerty display, I waved broadly and smiled my best smile. (It is untrue that I blew kisses and made a prayer-like sign with my hands.)

They didn't wave back but were beginning to catch on I think.

Finally at the close of the show I stopped by to talk to the current owner, Sean Kiernan. He and his wife (?) were enjoying a well-deserved glass of white wine after talking to thousands of admiring people.

At last I had a valid pitch ...

"Sean, friends do not let friends drive ... well, you know.)

He smiled. He certainly appreciated my tenacity.

Some good news and a message to would be restorers. Sean is not going to restore the car, will leave it in its current condition and do only what it takes to keep it drivable. The New Jersey BULLITT tags will remain on the car.

Hoop ( ... clever. but not clever enough.)
