Default My Model A Was Recalled....

........but just back to it's assembly plant for a couple pictures before the plant and sign are gone forever. The plant's been closed for a year now, and I still haven't heard what it's future is. Knowing the Twin Cities past history, I'm sure they'll tear it down, so I thought I better get a picture by the sign before it's gone forever.

On the way home a cop stopped me in the center of an intersection to ask what year my car was. Oh well, it was a Sunday and very little traffic on that street.

Someone want to buy a large two sided FORD sign?

Tom,
Does U.S.P.S. have one of those "IF IT FITS, IT SHIPS FOR ONE PRICE," boxes that big? If so, P.M. me for my address. Bill W. (Or, cut it in half, I have GORILLA GLUE.)

Excellent pictures!

Apparently, someone is still trimming the bushes there. But, not watering the grass??

Yes, in the past two months we've only had about 1/4 to 1/2" of rain. My yard is hard as pavement, but the moles are still able to make a lot of tunnels.

I wish I'd have taken these pictures two weeks ago, when the trees were still in fall colors.

That would look good at the Model A Museum.

Tom,
Have the leaves photoshoped in. If you like it have a picture made. Then you'll have one of each.

Great post!

Really cool that you took the oportunity that you had.

It also has me wondering what has become of all of the plants where A's where built.

I have been to the vacant building of the former New Orleans Plant (hoping I'd find some forgotten relic simply lying about, no luck).

My '29 Tudor was build in Atlanta, I'd love to get pictures of "Betty" in front of it.

It's sad, though. Life goes on, but those communities suffer for a long time afterwards.

Excellent point. I wonder what ever happened to the San Francisco plant where my A was assembled?

When I was at the New Orleans Plant I could not help but to think about what it was like back then.

Also I tried to contact the leasing agent to find out anything I could. "Left a unreturned message" I would hate it if the building where torn down. It still has the original architectual details from the era. Now I wish I had taken pictures.

Nice pictures, It sad that all theses plants are closing, and people are buying foreign cars.

P.S,
That plant @ 21'st & Harrison, downtown S.F. was closed after "T" & "A" production until '30 & moved across the bay to Richmond It was a 5 story building with huge freight elevators and most sub-assembleys came in by railroad. Hard to find much history on this plant. Cindy's gonna' drive down there & see what's there now.
Richmond building still exists, lots of stuff on the net about it. I was there in '53, watching them build cars! Bill W.

So, if my car was built in early 31, it was built at the Richmond site?

I thought Richmond assembly was online just in time for indented firewalls. Hmmm... OK, that's good to know.

Since the buildings are still there, maybe next spring, the car needs to have a homecoming.

I had a highway patrol officers stop me while driving my 39 Ford. Him and his partner just wanted to take a look and talk old Fords. They asked me if I needed to be somewhere and I said no. They were visiting patrolmen from the eastern part of the state during the Sturgis Rally.

I was stopped the other day by a local highway patrol while driving the 89 Olds with 400,000 miles on the odometer. There were several things she did not like and I was lucky she did not impound the Olds. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Her neighbor says she does not speak or act friendly. One neighbor said she is a tall lady with a short mans complex. She is good looking.

Our multi-story Assembly Plant here in Columbus Ohio is still standing though the Company sold it in the late 1930s.....it is interesting to go downtown and see the deed approved by Edsel Ford. I went through the building years ago and it seems hard to believe that cars of even a simple design were assembled there, let alone painted.
