Help! Stuck Door Pins
Currently wanting to put on my side mirrors on the Tudor but can't seem to punch out the pins that are currently stuck in there. Tried driving them out but the pins don't seem to budge one bit. Does anyone have advise or homemade tips on getting these out without drilling them. Car's doors have not been off in over 30 years! I see Snyder's has a tool that will help with this but thought I would ask before going this route.
Any help would be great! Justin |

You are probably going to need the tool.

Re: Help! Stuck Door Pins
I have had luck with an air chisil with a punch bit. The vibrations and the force seem to move them pretty easily. Mind you these have been on unpainted or unfinished cars.

Re: Help! Stuck Door Pins
why most pins are hard to remove is over the years a grove has been worn in the pin where the two hinges come together, the notch worn in the pin hangs up on one door hinge and wont come out, when you finally get it out it looks like its bent because of the wear on it, they sell a hinge pin remover, buy or borrow one, it makes the job so much easier

Re: Help! Stuck Door Pins
I just removed the pins from my fordor to install mirror. Soaked then for a couple of days with Kroil and they came right out with a punch.

Re: Help! Stuck Door Pins
It's my hope that someday, everyone here gets an opportunity to try Kroil.
The Snyder's tool sounds like a good idea to avoid door post damage from hammering. Question...can something like a piece of leather or nylon be used against the paintwork with this tool? ...or is repainting the hinge almost a certainty |

Re: Help! Stuck Door Pins
I don't recall any paint damage to mine, don't remember using anything to insulate the tool either.

Re: Help! Stuck Door Pins
The tool may do the job, but I Have bent the pins supplied with the tool on two occassions. I've found the Kroil and a lot of patience helps!

Re: Help! Stuck Door Pins
Have used the soaking with Kroil then a very large C Clamp(not Chineese made) putting a small 1/4" drive socket about 7/16" on top that will just fit over the head of the pin and put the C Clamp around this and the bottom of the hinge pin. When the pin bottoms out against the bottom of the hinge on its way out put a small steel pin on the bottom to drive the hinge pin up farther. Took several lengths of pins to get the job done. Did not scratch or mar the paint.
