Correct Voltage Regulator Cover - '46
I have the same zinc plated votage regulator cover that's shown in the 41-48 Ford Book and always felt it was the correct one because "it's in the book" but now a car restorer tells me that it's not the right one. He says that all Fords in that era had black regulator covers. I just can't believe, after all the research put into the judging book that it would be incorrect. What is your take on this and which do you have?

They are cadmium plated. I have been making those (correct) regulators and covers since the 70's. I am not sure what you have, but mine are from n.o.s. originals from Ford garages and Ford pictures from the archives. The cover for 1949/up are black. The 41 cover is different with different lettering.

Regardless they all shared the same appearance. The regulators were supplied to Ford by two different companies. One company stamped the "ARM", "FLD" and "BAT" (down) in to the cover while the other supplier stamped the covers from the inside resulting in raised letters.
