Default Correct Voltage Regulator Cover - '46

I have the same zinc plated votage regulator cover that's shown in the 41-48 Ford Book and always felt it was the correct one because "it's in the book" but now a car restorer tells me that it's not the right one. He says that all Fords in that era had black regulator covers. I just can't believe, after all the research put into the judging book that it would be incorrect. What is your take on this and which do you have?

They are cadmium plated. I have been making those (correct) regulators and covers since the 70's. I am not sure what you have, but mine are from n.o.s. originals from Ford garages and Ford pictures from the archives. The cover for 1949/up are black. The 41 cover is different with different lettering.

Bob, The correct regulator had a zinc or sometimes Terne plated cover. Somewhere in the post war years, Ford mixed in aluminum covers in their natural finish. I am not 100% certain what year(s) or whether they were mixed in along with the steel covered units or they replaced the steel cover units.
Regardless they all shared the same appearance.

The regulators were supplied to Ford by two different companies. One company stamped the "ARM", "FLD" and "BAT" (down) in to the cover while the other supplier stamped the covers from the inside resulting in raised letters.
