Default My next "evolution" Model A Ford research article...

I am about to finish the last of the gas tank articles (as soon as I can finish this farming for this year) and would like some suggestions from you guys on a specific part or assembly of that you think would be of interest to the Model A Ford community as far asa just how it evolved over the 4 years of production.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Pluck

how about steering evolution: the 7 tooth into the 2 tooth, worm gear thrust bearing changes during the 2 tooth's infancy, different lengths of steering shafts and light rods, moving the grease fittings on the tie rods from front to rear, the change in drag link orientation, upper steering column bearing set screw changes, changes in grease fittings on the steering box, steering column support, to name a few. There's no question why the 7 tooth was replaced by the 2 tooth, but why were the other changes implemented?

These are pictures of an original unrestored June, 1928 Tudor front seat. I'd like to see research on the support bar vs. cups, and when the forged parts changed to stampings.

Thanks for your research. I know it takes time and money to do it.

Interior stuff...window cranks, door handles and escutcheons for all bodies and all years. That would be great. Then I'd have a better idea of what to look for.

Brake system

Design and function

There is a significant amount of bad information floating around the forums. The more people understand the better they can build it properly. I have come across drubs and drabs of factory design info. If some of what I have heard is true people might be surprised at amount of accuracy in it's design.

I too would like to see information on floorboards; plus mats, carpets, and fasteners.

How about radiators? I understand there were differences among the models produced by Ford and those outsourced to McCord and Flintlock. Which ones used 3, 4, and 5 row cores? Which ones had tubes with seams? Did any of the 28s and 29s have straight inlets instead of the funnel shaped ones? I've never seen definitive answers to these questions, only bits and pieces scattered about multiple sources.
