Default C.W.Moss

Does C.W.Moss typically have high quality parts? https://cwmoss.com/

I typically shop at Bratton’s and Snyder’s, but they are out of stock on some parts that C.W.Moss supposedly has in stock.

Can anyone share there experiences?

I am not a fan of CW Moss although they are closest Model A store to me. They carry a lot of Vintique parts. In fact I believe in the past they were affiliated with Vintique.

Some of their hardware is not the best. But they also carry some of the same parts as other vendors. Take your chances. JMO.

I tend to think of CW Moss as more early V-8, but they do list some Model A parts.

CW Moss sells Vintique crap.
For instance I drove an hour to get to their store. I needed reproduction screws to mount the taillights on a 1930. When I got home and tried to install them they were the wrong thread. I called to complain and was told "We make the screws to fit our taillights". So their taillights have metric screws and that is what they sell as "Reproduction".

I buy all my parts from Arizona Model A. It is a one man operation run by Sammy. No catalog, no website. Simply call him on the phone and tell him what you need. He has all the same parts as Snyder's, Bratton's, ETC. But he is closer to my home in CA so the shipping is less. No credit cards. He ships your order with an invoice. When you get the order you mail him a check. If I order in the morning I will get the parts the next day, or sometimes on the 2nd day. He also deals in used parts. He is closed Sundays and Monday. 480 782 0266

I shop at Bratton’s and Snyder’s, or at the swap meets. I have had very good service from Bratton’s and Snyder’s. As big as they are I would think if they don't have what you are looking for try Burt's. Have not heard of C. W. Moss as a Model A parts dealer, the only C. W. Moss that I can recall hearing of is in the movie Bonnie and Clyde.

I have to say that when I saw the title I immediately thought of 'Bonnie & Clyde' from 1968. Too much Monday..... lol

The guy that started CW Moss looked like the character in the movie,so he used that name for the business.I do remember them being around in 1980.

It looks like Model A Medic has what I’m looking for in stock. Thanks for the feedback.

Our 28 came with some 50s JC Whitney pot metal tail light. I got a pair of their repos (not the correct expensive drum ones). The side you see has slotted screw heads like orig. The mounting screws are typical ChiCom Phillips heads. This is what I ordered but they no longer have the cloth wire. I need to find a clean way to alter the loom to hide the plastic wire.

C.W. Moss is very close to where I live. I find them to carry a nice selection of quality parts and have been happy with them as a Model A vendor.
I currently look to (3) vendors for parts I can trust.

Cloth covered modern wires can be bought from Restoration Supplies, see https://restorationstuff.com/.

They also sell cloth loomes that the wires can be stuffed into. See page 11 of their catalog.

Snyder's carries cloth covered wire in bulk and a variety of colors. Also cloth looms.

Restoration supply carries good stuff and items that you will not find anywhere else.

The problem with them IS THEIR WEBSITE. "I HATE IT"! Oh, did I mention their website sucks, and that I hate it?

I purchased an 8 fin Brass radiator for my '31 Coupe from CW Moss and it was a very good deal in my opinion.

"C.W. Moss" of Bonnie & Clyde fame = W.D. Jones + Henry Methvin, the two gang members who became a composite of the fictitious C.W. Moss.

Is that what you mean, gz???

Marshall

ADDED: The "why" part of your question - W.D. Jones was still alive when the 1967 movie was made. There was concern that movie goers or family members of Bonnie & Clyde would get the idea that W.D. "Deacon" Jones was the gang member who had betrayed B & C to Texas Ranger Frank Hamer and the police. The made-up C.W. Moss character was the movie's writers'/producer's way of protecting him against possible retaliation. 'Didn't do W.D. any good, though - he was shotgunned to death in the 1970's by the jealous boyfriend of a girl W.D. had picked up in a bar.

The founder of C.W. Moss (Lynne Williams) got his nickname and the business name from his look-a-like appearance to Michael J. Pollard who played C.W. Moss in the 1967 movie Bonnie and Clyde.
