Hi guys, I hope, I can describe this as it’s has happened a few times with no regularity.

So recently took a run to the store about 10 mikes away. Truck ran perfectly. I pulled in lot, pulled emergency brake and shut truck off. After leaving the store truck started right up, released emergency brake put in first and pulled out of parking lot and then stopped for light. Here is where my issue starts. When light turns green, it almost feels like my brakes are locked. I immediately push clutch in rev engine and try again. Truck responds as it should and I drive about 3 miles. Stop for light and it does it again. I again repeat what I did earlier and then truck drives all the way home with no issues.

I’ll pull all wheels off and check brakes but should I look at anything else? It’s weird that for most trips truck is fine.

Checking the brake cable action would seem to be the first troubleshooting step.

adjusted too tight? heat made them expand and lock up, short shoe to front

Brakes have 10k on them. I’ll pull drums see if anything amiss.

Just strange that it happens and then goes away.

Sounds like a wheel cylinder may be sticking.

TJ that is very possible.

I’ve seen them leak and have replaced. Is there a tell tail sign or a test I can do? I’m assuming not, since it’s intermittent.

Possible internal collapse of a flex line or lines. How old are they?

Thanks, while the sticking wheel cylinder sounds more likely. Your idea is also possible. I can’t recall if I replaced them when I purchased the truck 3 years ago. I’ll look into both suggestions.

You'd be surprised on the rate of occurrence on the collapsed flex line.
There's even a fair percentage of mis-manufactured flex lines where
the ID passage necks down.... those are really a pain to diagnose.
(story is too long to relate here, but I've seen that issue personally too)

Unless you've messed with the factory master cylinder setup in some way,
my money is on the wheel cylinder.

A piece of brake lining may have come dislodged. Not likely if the brakes are relatively new.

A good inspection of all the brake assemblies is called for.

If you go for a ride on quiet roads with a helper, and drive in a manner to cause the problem to reoccur, the helper can jump out and observe the wheels as you attempt to move. You might be able to identify which brake is hanging up.

You might check to see if the brake lights are on when this occurs. That would indicate a sticking master cylinder. Probably not likely though.

Can you tell if it's all the brakes, or just one wheel? If it's all of them, the residual pressure valve in the MC may be bad.

I had some drag when releasing the e-brake and backing up. It turned out to be a bad axle seal on the right rear, oil all over the shoes. 90wt is a good adhesive!

I think, it feels like both back brakes locked up. I’m now thinking, the suggestion on the one flex hose that feeds both is probably going bad.

I will still inspect all four wheels starting with back. I will replace the hose.

Hi Guys

I changed rear flex brake line.

What’s interesting is when I disconnected the line. Absolutely no brake fluid dripped out.

Master cylinder was full and when I depresses the brake peddle brake fluid came out the open line. I installed new flex line and bled out air. So far so good.
