KH Curve Spoke Wheels
I’m thinking about putting a 8”ford rear end under my 1932 Ford Victoria. I currently have 16” KH wheels. I know that I have seen this done at least a couple of times over the years but never asked about what was involved. Anybody able to help or get me in contact with someone that can ?

Wheels are commonly referred to as KH "Bent" spokes.

Lawson, did you miss the part where the spokes would possibly be mounted onto a Ford 8" rear end? |

Re: KH Curve Spoke Wheels
An early Ford Bronce 9" might be a good choice. The bolt pattern would be the same as
the KH wheels. Another and better choice might be the 8" rear end with new axle with the correct pattern or buy new KH wire wheels with the 8" bolt patttern. |

Re: KH Curve Spoke Wheels
A support ring is not sufficient. He needs an adapter of at least 1" thick and that has the support ridge incorporated.

Re: KH Curve Spoke Wheels
I made my own wheel adapters to mount 16 inch Ford wire wheels to the 8 inch Ford axles I use when I convert Halibrand 6 spline quick-change rears to drop in axles. The adapter dimensions are 1 inch thick and 8 inch diameter. Also I machine the adapters to be hub centric. This means the opening in the center of the adapters are machined so they locate on the hub of the Ford 8 inch axle. The hub centric style adapter is extremally strong since the weight is not on the studs its carried by the axles center hub.

Re: KH Curve Spoke Wheels
You would need 1” wheel adapters for a Jeep to get to the 5.5” bolt pattern for the Kelsey’s.
They don’t sell the adapters for Fords because the studs stick out too far. You need to trim the studs. The Kelsey will fit over the 8” rear drums. You need the rings to support the inside of the wheel flange. I made the rings at one time. I run 5.5 bc wheels on my roadster with a 8” rear. Just for giggles, I tried a Kelsey on the car. It fit just fine. |

Andy, I'm interested in knowing the details of your 8" rear end setup as far as what drums, etc. you're using and I'm sure there are many others wondering the same. Further details, pictures, etc. would be appreciated. My own experience is limited to 9" rear ends which definitely require an adapter like the one posted above as far as I've ever seen. Thanks. |

Randy; My mind just won't let me think about old Fords except the way Henry built them, although I do have juice brakes on Apatchy. grin

Re: KH Curve Spoke Wheels
I took some pics to show the fits.
The studs need to be shortened for clearance. With aluminum wheels it is really important to check the lug nuts also for clearance. The drum has clearance to the back of the wheel.I have run this set up on my roadster for a long time. No problems. |

Re: KH Curve Spoke Wheels
Andy,
Thanks for the pictures, but I guess I flew thru all you were saying too quickly and misunderstood. When you said "the Kelsey will fit over the 8” rear drums" I assumed that in that instance you were referring to bolting the Kelseys directly to 8" drums with the same bolt pattern and without a spacer/adaptor. Didn't think there was a drum small enough to do this but wasn't sure so questioned. I've used adaptors similar to the Speedway ones mentioned above a couple of times and they simply bolted onto the 9" hub without cutting off studs or any other modifications and they also have the necessary raised inner support. |
