Question Fulton starter lever question

Hi Folks.

A while back, I purchased an original Fulton Starter Lever that attaches to the steering column mount that I want to install in my '30 tudor. I only was able to buy the Lever and did not get the rod that goes from the lever to the starter.

My question is what does this rod look like? Does it go from the Fulton Lever and then on down thru the firewall and then threads into the starter switch, or does it go from the Fulton Lever and then fits over the large end of the original starter rod?

I had one of these in the Model A I drove to school more then 50 years ago and can not remember what the rod looked like. I guess my memory is not what it used to be.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, I have one on my Early 28 Roadster, and as you, it did not come with a rod. I just used a piece of 5/16" stainless rod and used the original hole in the top of the starter switch and put a cotter pin in it. If I remember correctly, I had to drill a hole in the top of the rod for a pin from the Fulton Upstarter.

Jim,

I like the idea of having some compliance where the rod connects with the starter switch. I may do something like what you did with your '28.

I am not big on a having a lot of accessories but as I remember, this was a nice option. Made the car easier to re-start if you stalled it on an incline. I will get mine installed tomorrow.

Thanks, Chris

This morning, I made a rod and installed the Fulton Starter Lever. Works great.

This is really a nice useful accessory. Very simple concept and I think it makes starting the car a little easier. Of course, this would not belong on a "High Point" car but I intend to use my car as a driver and for touring.

Thanks for the help,

Chris

When I found my Fulton lever, I just was able to find the handle and the part of the clamp that is attached to the handle. I had to make the rest of the clamp and the rod. This is what it looks like after I got it installed yesterday.

Again, thanks to all for your help.

Chris

I agree, that is a nice clean setup for the starter lever, and a beautiful paint job on the car!

Thanks for the comments.

I have really enjoyed restoring this car. I tried to do most of it myself and had a lot of help from "The Barn". I still have a few things to finish up but it is now to the point where I can drive and enjoy it. I still have to do a little detailing on the paint and get it striped.

I restored the car to drive and to go on tours. I have turn signals in the cowl lamps. I used the kit Bratton's sells where the switch is mounted behind the dash panel and just the knob sticking down.

I also used a counterweighted "B" Engine with a Snyder "A" Head and a "B" Carb., a Mitchell Transmission and Overdrive. The car seems to run right along and is a pleasure to drive.

Another thing I did was to install an "In the Generator" Electronic Voltage Regulator that I purchased from Tom Wesenberg. This really works well and the battery is always fully charged. You do not have to re-set the charging rate of the generator for Daytime or night driving. The whole electrical system seems to work much better when the battery is fully charged. I do not feel the need for 12 Volts.

I am going to install LED Tail and Stop Lights. I think it is important to do everything you can to let the people behind you know you are there. These days, a lot of "Civilians" are driving around doing so much other stuff, they do not pay attention to what is going on in front of them.

Chris
