Masking body mouldings 31 roadster
I am in the process of painting my 31 roadster and have a question about masking the body moldings along side the deck lid opening. How far down on the side of the deck lid opening do you carry the molding color? Does it go just a little way down or clear down into the rain gutter?
My inclination is to carry the moulding color down about 1/4 inch along the sides of the deck lid opening and then finish the rest of the rain gutter in body color. Does anyone know what is correct and looks best? Thanks in advance for your comments. Chris W. |

Re: Masking body mouldings 31 roadster
I painted this roadster in 1998, and carried the molding color a quarter inch below the top edge. Washington Blue and Riviera Blue. I have no idea of what is correct, or even if there is really a "correct" way to paint this area. The Model A paint guide says that there was a lot of variation of these details between cars and between assembly plants. Anyway, this is how your car will look like if you do it this way. Masking was fairly easy.

Thanks, That is exactly what I wanted to know. I think this is probably about what was generally done at the factory. I am also paint my roadster Washington Blue. I think that color really looks great on the 30-31 roadsters. Thanks for the picture. Chris |
