Intake manifold heat riser

I have a question about the heat riser chamber under the carburetor portion of an Early V8 intake manifold. I believe the manifold is from the 38-42 period but not sure. While looking at the manifold off the engine I noticed what appeared to be a rod protruding from one of the heat riser holes. I attempted to pull it out with some pliers when it broke off. After some work I was able to get the rest of it out the hole in pieces and found what appears to be a fulcrum type device that was cast into the chamber when the manifold was made. I also noticed a metal pin in the bottom of the chamber which apparently held the device in place during casting. I have looked at other manifolds and never noticed a pin in the bottom and always thought the chambers to be empty. My question is what was its purpose and what years was it used if anyone knows.

It may be from the casting of the metal. A form that had broken off and lodged in the cavity during the casting process. I have removed metal wire from the coolant cavity of heads.

I didn't think about it being part of the casting but it makes sense. Thanks for your response.

No expert but that manifold is interesting because it looks late '30s-'50s but still has vacuum taps near the bolt holes like early to later '30s.

They did use core wire to hold the internal sand cores but that looks more like something else. I wonder if a careless mechanic dropped something in there.

I had to cut the item into pieces in order to get it out the heat riser hole. In tack it would be too large to fit through the hole.
