1948 sedan door questions
Hi,
Two questions: first is about the back edge of door weatherstrip - How far up the back of the door does it go? My other question is about the bottom window channel - Does the tab on the end of the channel go toward the front or the back of the door? I've attached a couple of pictures to hopefully make things clearer. Thanks! |

Re: 1948 sedan door questions
Are you certain that the weatherstripping is oriented properly? It appears to be standing proud from the short edge.
The window channel only fit one way - unfortunately, I don't recall which way. My hunch is the tabs are toward the interior. Play with it and the answer will emerge.

The picture is of the upper back edge of the driver's door.

Re: 1948 sedan door questions
Just started taking apart a nice original ‘46 Mercury, and the weatherstrip goes all the way up to about 3/8” from the top edge of the door. There’s a clip there that holds it on, as part of the trim retainer for the stainless trim around the windows. Another clip is located at the belt molding, where the weatherstrip changes from straight to curved. And fortyniner is correct; it appears you’re attaching the weatherstrip to the wrong surface of the door. It should attach to the training edge of the door… to the left of where you show it in your photo.
Regarding the question on the tab at one end of the window channel, all I can say is that the two tabs that the window regulator pins go thru faced to the “inside” of the car. I have photos but can’t seem to attach them. Can send via personal email if you’d like them. |

The two side tabs on the channel do face toward the interior of the car and I believe that the end tab goes toward the front for the door. It's been really tricky to get these seals in the right spot because the original ones were long gone when I got the car. |
