Default Is it all worth it?

Yes, yes it is. taking out dents, back filing, sanding and buffing my original headlight rims. Got the same results on the tail light. Had to order all the screws, sockets and wiring but its gonna be worth it.

Every stage of restoration can be a hastle, but it's all worth it when it's done. I usually finish one assembly at a time. Then put it in my storage room until everything is ready for assembly into a complete car. I'm currently working on my 6th ground up Model A restoration.

I did my stainless too, many years ago. Any good ideas for the dents in the cowl strip? It was so tough to get any kind of a tool/block inside the strip. There are still a few small dents in it that I didn't get out at the time.

Years ago I when I restored a '30 cowl band I used a round head wooden clothes pin that slipped down into the groove on the back of the band.
Then just lightly tapped on the end of the clothes pin with a hammer and let the round wooden head smooth the bumps. When you do that lay the cowl band on a work surace cushioned with a couple of rags so you don't mar the surface of the band.
This same method worked great on the headlight rims as well.
If you can't find the old clothes pins you might try rounding the head of a wooden dowel. With a little care and patience it should work well.

I too used a wooden dowel. The problem was on dents close to the edge... from the backside, these were up under the turned edge of the band. Tough to get anything back under that rolled edge and apply any pressure. Thanks for sharing.

I just finished my cowl band using a 3" long 1/4"-20 carridge bolt that I filed the head to fit into the curve,it snaps in and a soft piece of pine board for the base covered with cloth. It takes time but the results are verry good before filing, sanding and buffing. The better the head matches the cowl band, the easier it works.
Good luck. Grant
