I admit that Brent had me going with his comments regarding heating a frame - but now that he has described further, the engineer in me sees his description as credible.

And possibly time consuming - but they're not making any more original frames.

And sort of like "pein straightening" which is a process that works similarly through mechanical means - and can be magical in its effect on a long shaft.
