It sounds like it may be running too lean, try opening the gav a little more and see if that helps.

Until a real mechanic chimes in, I'm going to suggest that you try closing the GAV. I sort of recall that this is a symptom of too much carburetor, i.e., more fuel than engine can handle. Does it smoke?

Does it hesitate both hot and cold, and also on hot and cold days? If I use 10% ethanol on a hot day my car will hesitate when leaving stop lights. Runs great on GOOD gas. Never missed a lick on my recent 600 mile trip.

The secondary well is what supplies an extra shot of fuel to the cap jet when you excellerate. Opening the GAV slightly more may help the situation. Also check that the comp jet is not plugged as it ports fuel into the secondary well from the reservoir. also check that the cap jet itself is not restricted. You could also have a partial blockage of the passageway that also ports fuel from the GAV to the secondary well. The two holes in the bottom of the secondary well could also be plugged.

What is the 'high speed' jet. I only find Main jet, Cap jet, and Idle jet.
By the way, nice looking truck (just like mine incl'd paint) Thanks, Ken

I had the same problem this last trip to French Lick,, It was 95 out and that gas got HOT…we had trouble when we shut it down and tried to re-start…more like a vapor lock, took about 30 min to cool off and then started but sputtered when we drove and at a stop light…In the heat I do open the GAV to let that gas flow good and it seems to correct the problem like Tom says. I also run a B carb which i run closed all the time so by opining it do see a difference…Try what some say her and let us know…one last thing try also opening the gas/air screw on the carb a bit more to allow different mix……good luck

I've found that to be my solution also.

Yep, after a hot heat soak & fuel sizzlin' in a hot carb, it may be flooded & out of "sorts" Some folks think that giving it more throttle will flood it, JUST THE OPPOSITE!
If that doesn't start it, while it is cranking over, jist "whist" the choke on for a NANO-NANO second.
"Maybe" these hot soaks are mistaken for those dreaded "VAPOR LOCKS"??? Here, I've NEVER had hot starting problems & YES, it gits HOT here, 107 degrees today
Once, at 112, I did 39 miles, running errands in the city, & Minerva did PERFECT, with her Walker 10 fin radumator, a 6 blade BLACK plastic fan & a 160 degree thermostat in the upper end of the upper radumator hose. YES, I wuz HOT, you could see my sweaty body profile in the grey seat, BUT, Minerva didn't even puke ANY water in my carriage house floor, when I parked her, thanks to the big head, loose fitting nail, in the top of the overflow tube!
Vermin will have a 2 quart overflow reservoir, attached to the inside of the radumator shell, & hooked up with a short hose to the overflow tube, for added protection. He has, what I think, is an Isaac Kramer, pepro radumator, which supposedly has a larger capacity upper tank, BUT looks like an original early '29 radumator! Mine looks perfect & has NO signs of ever being repaired or ANY signs of calcium deposits & has ONLY a couple of fins bent, on the backside, which will straighten with my fin comb.
Fun figgerin' out Vermin, since I have NO written or documented history, BUT, a lot of old pics. Like new engine was built in 1987 & runs like a fine Waltham Watch!
DOES ANYONE HAVE PICS OF AN ISAAC KRAMER RADUMATOR??
