when i got my 36 pickup, the brakes did not work that good. they needed a good adjustment. the first thing i did was adjust the brakes like you do in a newer car, that helped. i put in new clevises and replaced the cross shaft, with a rebuilt one. fix all your slopp and play in your rods and linkage first
