I have never bought a repro wheel and the price is quite high for the repro rims. There still seems to be a reasonable supply of decent original wheels still available, but you have to look a little harder for good one now. If I were you I would look for a good original rim(s) as they are a lot less expensive and well made.

Dave Gerold from our club is running them on his 1929 Phaeton and has thousands of miles on them.

I bought a full set when they first came out. I put a lot of miles on each year and often will jump on the freeway and go! I did not want to be on the freeway with old wheels.
I had one develop cracks in the center hub at about 20,000 miles. Mike's replaced it without question...even sent me a replacement before I returned the cracked one to them.
I now have about 40,000 on the set.
They look like originals from a distance...but up close...pretty easy to tell they are not originals.

Now let's talk whitewalls, dual sidemounts and orange wheels on a "29...I put white walls on the orange wheels so no one would notice the reproduction wheels. (See avatar...six on the Phaeton)

It's worked so far...
Good Day!

Dave Gerold

What a great idea to hide repro-wheels.

As no (good) originals available over here, i bought
a set of repro 21".

For sure not made in USA ( nor Germany )
Package for transportation was somewhat lousy
Seems they heldt my package tight with a 20 ton
fertilizer on it (while on transportation...).

Good news :
rims are straight and run well since many thousand miles

Noticed 5 large cracks in the center on a customers car.Hope he can get the same replacement deal Dave got. Car has whitewalls, but the cracks are still easy to see. Bob

NO! Bob, the whitewalls will only hide the incorrect look at the spoke to rim connection...
Cracks in the center hub...as you noticed...nothing will hide those!

All meant in good humor guys...don't take anything I have said as serious...except the wheels were darn straight when I got them and are still running true.

ps: The cracks in the hub could have developed from a wild side slide during which I was up on two wheels trying to avoid a driver who ran a stop sign. We did not hit...thank God mostly (and my cat-like reflexes...Hah!) The cracked wheel was the one on the rear of the side ridden on two wheels. Funny thing...even with 3 cracks, that wheel still spun almost true.

Good Day!
