1954 Ford 3-Speed OD Trans. Fits What Other Years?
I have a Ford 3-Speed OD Transmission that was removed from a 1954 Ford Coupe. I plan to list it to sell on The Ford Barn Swap Meet.
Question: What Other Years (if any) does this transmission fit? For Example: 1952?, '53?....1949?, '50?, '51?....1955?, '56?.......Thanks |

Re: 1954 Ford 3-Speed OD Trans. Fits What Other Years?
The 1952-54 Ford passenger car transmissions (standard and overdrive) were identical. Internally, most of the internal gears are also used in the 1951 models. Most of the gears changed for the 1955 and newer models.
The basic R-10 overdrive components (planetary gear, sun gear, freewheel cam, ring gear, and a few other parts are interchangeable across the years from 1949-64 or so.

There is always a possibility that it could be a Borg Warner T85 with the R11 overdrive. These transmissions have a curved bottom edge on the side cover and should have R11 casting marks on the OD unit. These were the heavy duty 3-speed W/OD. You just never know what might be attached to these old cars. |
