cost of a 38/39 pickup barn find
Mostly there pickup. 85 horse motor, tran, bed, 2 speed rearend. All of the body is there. Not immaculate but not trashed or rusted. Missing door glass. Owner states he was told it was running 20 years ago when parked. He is asking $2000. as is or $3000. running. Is this out of the ballpark? Thanks. Jim

Two speed rear is worth that. I paid $8,000 for mine "restored" and have to go over the whole thing.

I've seen complete basket cases going for that. 3K for a runner is a steal.

Re: cost of a 38/39 pickup barn find
An important thing I have come to realize since I started restoration of my 39 pickup is to make sure all the fenders and related sheetmetal are in fairly good condition. If you're like me and don't like fiberglass on your car/truck this is important because these parts are hard to find in good shape. Just one thing to consider when negociating a price.

Re: cost of a 38/39 pickup barn find
Sure it's a pickup? - 2 speed rear end could mean a heavier truck - if he said columbia overdrive then it's got to be worth making an offer.

Re: cost of a 38/39 pickup barn find
this is a pick-up, not a 1 1/2 ton truck, right? A columbia two speed (which would be in a pu) is worth the $2000.00 alone. Buy it!!

Re: cost of a 38/39 pickup barn find
The pickup is a long drive from me. I've seen it once and only a cursory inspection. My friend told me it is a 2 speed rearend. I don't know the type. I didn't see it. He described it as being aftermarket on the driveline. Any info on determining the type would be appreciated. The owner originally stated it was a '37. It appeared to me to be the 38/39 and based on what I remember it looks like a '39. The grill does not have the V8 at the top.It appeared as a pickup. If it is a truck that has been converted what should I look for? I plan on going back to check it out fully. I do know that the hood has hinges welded on to hold it ( this info from my friend.) I don't know what damage that may provide. I plan to go back and look for juice brakes, head bolt number to narrow down the year, serial number, etc..... Suggestions on what else to look for would be welcomed.

Sounds like you can't go wrong, especially for the Columbia.

If it's a 1/2 ton w/ a 2 speed Columbia. Excellent price. Ken
