Fuel leak at the filler neck
Appears to be leaking around where the sleeve screws into the tank. Is there a special tool or technique to unscrew the sleeve. I have ordered the lead seal, but is that the best thing to use as a seal?
This sleeve has a series on holes drilled around that appear to be for a tool with a pin that fits the holes. A spanner of some kind unless you are British, in which case all the wrenches are spanners. Thanks, John

John-
You need a spanner wrench. Several places have them available, try McMasters. http://www.mscdirect.com/browse/?nav...es&hdrsrh=true Tom |

Re: Fuel leak at the filler neck
Also. you may have to use two lead gaskets to stop the leak. I did.

Re: Fuel leak at the filler neck
Is it leaking all of the time or just when filling up? I have tightened up that ring with a nail set and hammer. Put the tip of the nail set in a hole and gently tap it tighter. If it's leaking during fueling, you might be placing the seal of the fuel nozzle completely over the filler. This will trap air and force the gas to weep out of the connection on the filler tube. I just put my thumb between the filler neck and the seal of the nozzle. No more leaks when filling up. Good luck, these are sometimes tough to work on due to location.

Re: Fuel leak at the filler neck
Thanks for the advice. I think I will try tapping it a little tighter first, just to see if it will move. I've only ordered one seal (ever the optimist), so maybe a second one on hand will follow Murphy's Law and keep me from needing it.
No issue right now, since I've run the tank down below the seal. John

Watch for sparks? If he sees a spark, no doubt it's too late.
I think it best he avoid making sparks. I'd use a spanner wrench but if he doesn't have one, then perhaps a piece of hardwood, maybe maple.

Re: Fuel leak at the filler neck
Try McMaster-Carr ---- Spanner Wrench # 5475A16 You might have
to modify the pin slightly. |
