Tips for Brake Disassembly 1940
I'm in the process of moving a '40 Ford for the first time in over 35 years after sitting outside for much longer than that. Was able to get 3 of 4 wheels to spin, but one of the rears appears to be frozen (car has no engine/transmission installed). In order to get one of the fronts to move, I had to knock the lining off the brake shoes and removed the wheel brake cylinder, but I couldn't remove the two bottom adjuster nuts in order to take the shoes off. I tried holding the bolts from the inside with a pair of vise-grips, only to have them spin when I put an impact wrench on the nuts. Is there a trick to removing the adjusting bolts so that the shoes can be removed?
