Has anyone ever had to add oil to Stipe Shocks and if so what oil did you use. I don't need to add oil to mine, just curious for future knowledge.

They are filled with hydraulic oil at assembly.

I realize that. But unlike other repro Houdaille type shocks, Stipes can be refilled if needed.

The data sheet that came with my Stipe shocks says to use:

Full Synthetic Hydraulic oil 30 to 40 weight.

Only fill to within 1/16th inch of bottom of filler hole ...

Leave air to allow for expansion.

Reseal plug with SMALL amount of sealer.
End Quote

Thanks for the response Benson. My Stipe Shocks were on the car when I bought it and I didn't receive the data sheet.

Since I posted my question I found on The Ford Garage to use "modern premium ISO 150 synthetic hydraulic oil".

But my original questions were still not answered.

THANKS FOR referring me To Vince FALTER'S site for conversion to ISO.

About leaks I have two sets of Stipe shocks for 3 -4 years and no leaks.

Here is a table that converts ISO 150 to 40 weight which agrees with VINCE'S INFO which is always based on research.

Looks like ISO 100 equals 30 weight

and ISO 150 is 40 weight

That is the way my computer is setup anyway.
