46 - 48 bumper wing tips

Found these bumper wing tips. Are they Ford , Mercury or both?

These Bumper Tips are for 46 - 48 Mercury only. While the 3 grooves at top of the Mercury Bumper Guards were removed on the updated 47 and 48 models for a smooth look, these End Tips retained the 3 grooves on all years. Regards Mercman <><

This is the correct Bumper End Tip for the 46-48 Fords. it is totally different from the ones fitted on the same years of Mercury.

The contour looked like they would bolt onto the Ford bumper okay.
The proper Ford tips are very different ..... wonder how hard they are to find.

They are on Ebay from time to time. Over a couple of years I found all four for my 48 business coupe.

Here are two photos showing the Bumper Guards on the Mercury.
You will note that in 1946, they had three little slots. These were deleted in the updated 47 models that were sold into 1948. However, the Bumper End Tips retained these shots for all years.

The reason why the Mercury End Tips don't fit the Ford Bumpers, is because the Mercury Bumpers have a ridge down the bottom, as shown in this photo. The Ford Bumpers are plain, without this ridge.

I have found that sometimes people tend to over "accessorize" their cars. I have a set of wing tips for my '46 Station Wagon, but took them off. I think they make the front end too bulky and look like an add on. I like the look of the stock bumper as it fits the overall look of the front end.
