37 Ford toe in/toe out setting
Front tires scrubbing on outside edge. Measuring front & back of tires, toe in of 9/16" of toe in found. How does this relate to degrees? I've read conflicting suggestions about whether toe in or toe out is better for handling on straight axle Fords, always discussed in degrees. I don't know of a shop that still does front end work on "old" straight axle Fords, so I am trying adjust the front end myself. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rod

The correct toe in is 1/16" as stated above.

Re: 37 Ford toe in/toe out setting
With 9/16" of toe in, I'm not surprised the edges are wearing. Does the tread look "feathered"? (hard to explain what that is if you don't know what I mean. If you brush your hand over the tire thread from outside to inside it will feel smooth. If you brush your hand from inside to outside it will feel less smooth. If it is feathered your hand will pick up on the edges of the tread.
Evidence of feathering will alert an experienced driver that the toe-in may be excessive. I can't believe anyone would be suggesting toe-out would be suitable for a conventional beam axled vehicle such as an early ford. (4wds may be different, I don't know). Mart. |

Re: 37 Ford toe in/toe out setting
Toe out is often used on dirt track race cars with a solid axle. Don't think you would like it much on a street car. Old Fords use toe in and 1/16 as already stated.
