1951 bellhousing question

14 years ago I sold my '51 Tudor Deluxe and have always missed it. Well, yesterday I brought home another '51, it's almost scary, same color and a 6 cylinder, just like my first, also soon to be a V8. I will post some pics here if I can make them small enough. Any way, I vaguely remember I had a challenge regarding bellhousings, in the engine swap. Does the '51 V8 bellhousing have the throwout lever exit parallel to the ground or at a slight downward angle?

The 49-51 Ford passenger car bell housings are the same……stamped steel and the release fork does come out angled down. These bell housings have the unique starter plate that has the angled mount for the starter.

I have all the V8 parts, if you end up needing them.

The housings have a different part number. The 226 H-series I6 for 1951 has a prefix of 1HA for the bell housing (1HA-6392).

Shoebox…. I’m in the process of “ resuscitating” a ‘51 Tudor Deluxe myself. If it has a running 6cyl. in it now, I’m sure that engine will be valuable. Mine had no motor in it when I got it but plenty of rust. Looking forward to the pics……..Mark

The '49-'51 6 cyl. bell looks similar to the V8 but is flat on the engine side instead of angled at the bottom like the V8. Biggest difference is the very large 6 cyl. starter plate vs the much smaller and angled V8 plate.

Just wanted to say 'Thank You' to all, for the responses regarding my '51 V8 needs regarding parts needed to drop a V8 into my newly aquired '51 Tudor. I believe I thanked everyone individually, but here again, the Ford Barn is the best!!
