Default Model A Fordor?

Is it true that the Model A four door sedan is in demand? I was told to stay away from (Most) 4 door vehicles. I was thinking about adding another A to the collection.

Fordor Model A's have class and comfort. Go for it, as long as it doesn't need a wood kit.

What Tom says is very true, except for the 1931 slant window 4 door that has very little wood. Put a trunk on it and there is plenty of room to carry friends.

I bought one, and If I had known a bit more about them, I never would have picked that model. The body is a complicated structure of wood, with the sheet metal skin mostly nailed on. As long as the wood is in good shape, no problem, but expensive and involved to replace. Other Model A body types, like the Tudor, have much less wood, and more metal in their body construction.

I like my Town Sedan a lot. My wood is in good shape.

As others have said, maybe a 31 slant is a better bet, but I like the looks of the car with the visor.

I personally love fordors. They're very comfortable cars that have lots of room compared to other body styles. As mentioned before, I also believe that they have a much more elegant look to them.

I love my Briggs Town Sedan. My wood was all perfect, and original. The 4 door sedans are exceptionally comfortable, even for the rear seat passengers.

I am having my LeBaron Bonney interior installed right now, and I will update my pictures very soon.

Good luck on your search

Concur with all stated; on my second S/W tn sed. best riding of all A's owned, though other 2 door models have less doors and windows to rattle, if that's an issue. But most rattles can be fixed along with proper body shimming, etc.

Is the wood kit only for the roof, or is there a lot of wood in the body too?

All fordors prior to the slant windshield have lots of wood in both the body and the roof.

1929: The whole body from the cowl back is a wood framework-doors included. somewhere on this computer I'm sure I have some photos of what it looks like-I'll see If I can find some.

Here's a photo from here on Fordbarn that I saved as a reference-this is a car being restored by Fordbarn member "Brent", if I recall correctly.

When I bought my T.S. I thought all 4 drs were a drug on the market. But, since then, I've come to be very glad that I own it (Just have to finish it). Complete wood kits will cost you about $5000 That's the top, body, sills, seats and doors. Some seat wood is not even available and must be made. I am a former Tool and Die maker so duplicating the wood was not too hard. Some was so far gone it had to be purchased. Go to my profile and the album "My A". I also have picture of the Ford Center, where the original wood was harvested and milled, that we stumbled on to in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan. Go for it!
