Spark and Throttle Levers or rods
I bought new Spark and Throttle rods or levers for my 1929 Model A and have run into a problem . I got new springs for these the springs that were on there had been cut roughly in half by a previous owner and they did work . I got the new rods in there ( no easy job) with anti rattle felts on them only to find that the new springs are almost 2 inches long and will not fit ! I compressed one new spring in a vice and it was 3/4 of an inch long fully compressed . Measuring I see there is only 1/2 inch of space for the springs on the rods . SO what is normally done here should I Cut the springs or Drill new rivet holes near the end of the rods ? I could pick up about 1/4 inch by re-drilling? What have you done to solve this problem ?
Also Should there be any washers or other hardware on there or just the springs and little ball ends ? I want to get the Throttle and spark rods or levers on there correctly . THANK YOU ! B0B in Michigan |

Re: Spark and Throttle Levers or rods
When I put on new springs I got them from Brattons, they were correct in every way. No washers.

Re: Spark and Throttle Levers or rods
Are your rods fully against the ripples in the column top?
Here's a picture of my original 1928 7 tooth column, and the springs installed length is a hair over 1". It appears the springs have about 9 1/2 turns each, and from the top of the spring to the points on the rod ends I have about 1 5/8" or a hair more. |

Re: Spark and Throttle Levers or rods
Did they send you the correct rods? I had to send mine back for a switch to the proper ones.
