8BA piston install
I know the piston pin is offset but there is no mark on the pistons to indicate which way to install. there is an oiling slot on the skirt, does it go up (intake side ) or down (exhaust side )?

Re: 8BA piston install
Is there not a notch in one edge of each piston crown? That faces front

Re: 8BA piston install
Not all piston mfrs make the flathead pistons with an offset on the wrist pin. If there is no marking, this generally means it can be installed either way. If it has the mark on the top of the piston, you place the marked side to the front. As always, check with your supplier for verification.

Re: 8BA piston install
From the blueprints I have seen the cylinders have the offset---something like 0.187, that piston markings have more to do with thrust--non thrust sides

Re: 8BA piston install
Put the piston on a pencil , If it stays level it doesn't have an offset.

Re: 8BA piston install
When it came to off set pistons, back in the 60 we would revers the offset in the Chrysler hemis, Olds and Pontiac engines. Probably the SBS too, but we usually used aftermarket hi conp pistons in them. (Cheaper) the Hemis liked the switch and put out more revs and torque. Stock engines use the offset to quite the engine. Reversing it adds torque.
