The Perfect Wife
My wife just suggested I get another Model A.
Is heaven missing an angel? Now, to bring the story down to earth, she did say I'd have to sell my coupe. But just to hear her say she'd like to have a Fordor makes my heart go thump. She's done this a number of times over the last 32 years. That's how I upgraded from a Honda 750 to a Harley. It's how I got my second Harley and why I was able to ride that bike across the country. It was her suggestion that I get my brother's Model A pickup when he offered it even though it meant draining our savings. Hope you have something similar. Just thought I'd share that. I'll be looking around or a Fordor now!

Re: The Perfect Wife
The "boss" rule rule around here is "one in - one out" so now my '68 Buick is up for sale.

Re: The Perfect Wife
It does help to have a good woman! Mine supports my addiction as well, just rescently she suggested I put up another building to make it easier to work on things. I did use the "easier to get forgiveness than permission" ideology for the fordor though.

Re: The Perfect Wife
I wonder why it is that wives often think there is some mystical "that's enough" number of cars we're "allowed" or "supposed" to have? My wife is like that. She thinks 3 Model A's is enough. I love her dearly, but I can't understand her reasoning on this. It's not financial; it's not storage. And she can't tell me any more than, "Three is enough." If she wanted to buy five of something, anything (except dogs, cats, birds or other critters), and it didn't put us in financial straights, I wouldn't tell her "Three is enough." I just don't get it. And I hear the same from my car hobby friends.

Re: The Perfect Wife
You are a lucky guy indeed! My wife suggested we purchase a Vicky to have a back seat because she thought they looked cute.
She also helps in the garage! Putting the clutch in a 40 Flathead

Re: The Perfect Wife
Before her stroke, my grandma was on the board of the Ft. Worth club, worked on Model A's, drove Model A's, & went on every tour/activity possible. I think women enjoy the hobby as much as men.

Re: The Perfect Wife
Sounds like all of you have great wives. My wife and I will have been married for 37 years this week. She is the most generous person that I have ever met, not to just me, but to everyone.
She totally supports my hobby, she likes all the cars, but think she prefers the Model A. She is slowing down some, but when I prep and paint a vehicle, she is very good at it. She can block sand a body panel just perfect and her tape masking skills are excellent. I did body and fender for a living years ago, before I became an engineer, she learned from helping me before and after when we got married. She's great! |

Re: The Perfect Wife
Once upon a time, we had two Model A's - and e28 Phaeton and a '31 DeLuxe Roadster. My first clue was that Kim named the '31 after herself, "Lil' Kimmie". Second clue was that she learned to drive the '31, including the spark controls, etc.
When it came time to move, only one Model A could go with us. Naturally, being a blockhead, I decided to move the e28 because it was "more interesting" in my view, and sold the '31. To this day, have not heard the last of my "bad" decision. Who says wives don't get attached to Model A's?? Regards, [email protected] |

Re: The Perfect Wife
That's how we have our Leatherback now. Wife got sick of riding in the rumble seat of the Coupe when we go on Club Meets because our 4 year old is up front with me buckled in to his booster seat, so she said lets get a fordor. I didn't argue with her :-)

Re: The Perfect Wife
My wife has always been supportive of my hobbies since we were first married 42 years ago. Every now and then she suggests that I just go out and BUY a finished Model A so we can enjoy one before we both croak. I just may take her up on that one of these days. I keep hearing this 31 Roadster I know of calling out my name. Gee, Christmas is just around the corner. Let me think......new kitchen or new Model A ???? That would be a true test.lol

Re: The Perfect Wife
Yeah, my wife doesn't set foot in the garage (her choice), nor drive the cars. She just loves the way they ride and how they look. Same with the bikes.

Re: The Perfect Wife
Here is mine. We've been married over 40 years. We have had Indian motorcycles. She could ride the Harley Duo glide if I cranked it. Over the years we have had flathead V8 Fords, tri 5 Chevies and others. She has helped me with all of them and never complained. Besides the other stuff, we have always had the model A's. She can drive them as well as anybody plus set the timing and points.

Re: The Perfect Wife
My new bride came with TWO Model As of her own: a '31 deluxe coupe and a '30 town sedan. She rebuilt the rear brakes on my '30 cabbie before we drove it to Vancouver in 2010 and she has served as president of our local MAFCA chapter, as well as chairperson of a national MAFCA event. I am a lucky guy and I do love her dearly.

D it when I sold my 30 town sedan that I had for 28 years to buy a 356 Porsche. I had a 73 Porsche that I sold and after a few years of going to Porsche club events she suggested I get a newer Porsche. So I did. when I told her that a guy I know was going to cut up a Victoria a 31victoria and make it a street rod she told me to go get it. she loves Model A Fords. |

Re: The Perfect Wife
My wife is very supportive of my Model A hobby, and accompanies me on trips, club meetings, etc. when her schedule permits. She knows that by supporting my hobby, that I will support hers -- sewing / quilting, and the associated machines and supplies that it takes. Win-Win!
