Default radiator shell

Is anyone aware of any '30 radiator shells being installed on early '31 PU's ??

Commercial shells were all the same weren't they? Only the DeLuxe would have had the passenger car shells.

My late 31 has a 30 shell, probably put on by the owner that restored it trying to make it a DeLuxe model some 20+ years ago.

The correct shell for a 1931 pickup is a regular steel shell that is the same shape as the 1930 shell. The only difference between a 1930 pickup shell and a 1931 pickup shell is that the emblem was blue in 1930 and stainless in 1931. Of course a dealer trying to sell trucks would have done anything he had to do to sell them.

I am sure that you intended to show the difference of the emblems between 1930 and 1931 but it might be good to point out that your radiator shells are from AA trucks (straight across the top) and not pickups (peak across the top like a '30 passenger shell).

Patrick,

I am confused by your post. On the pickup the entire shell should be painted black as in the picture from Brent. What are you trying to say?

I have 2 friends with '31 pick-ups.. They both must have the wrong radiator shells even though they are great looking trucks.. One apparently has a 31 car shell and is painted as such.. The other is all nice and shiny except for the painted lower inset and looks to me like more of a '30 shell.. I'm no expert on such matters, I'm still a-learnin'..

I picked up a nice commercial steel shell for my pu and find it's 3/4" wider in depth, must be for AA?, did they make both in steel?

Both shells were in steel. The pickup has a peak at the top as in post #8 and the AA is straight across (and deeper to allow for a thicker radiator) as in post #6.
