In NY, there is no sales tax on shipping charges. This means that any amount over the real cost is pure profit.

In Florida, sales tax is charged on shipping so there is no advantage to gouging the customer.

Quote from local newspaper. Hope they pay NYS millions in back taxes.

MAC’s Antique Auto Parts struck two, 15-year Payment In Lieu of Taxes agreements with the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency, in 2007 when the business moved from Lincoln Avenue in the city of Lockport to 6150 Donner Road, and in 2011, when the business underwent a 35,000-square-foot expansion.
Layoff of MAC’s warehouse employees would trigger NCIDA review of the agreements, for a determination whether benefits including a property tax break should be canceled, according to Susan Langdon, director of projects and finance.

[Betcha that would be a smart move on Macs and Florida's part if Florida did pay for the new building especially if they attract 75 permanent jobs! Wayne

Never had a problem with Mac's-in fact, some pretty good experiences. If they have what I need at a reasonable price, including shipping, then I will order it-after,of course, looking around at other suppliers-I do my homework.

If you don't want to deal with Mac's, don't, but for heaven's sake, stop the whining.

I don't think stating ones experiences, bad or good, with Mac's is whining. I, for one, like to know other peoples experiences with model A parts suppliers, again good or not so good. I have had experiences with Mac's I wasn't happy with and it is nice to know I was not alone. That is why I won't buy from them anymore. Besides, it appears they are just moving to Florida, so anyone that likes them can still buy from them. There are other good vendors, Bratton's, Bert's, A&L to name a few.

It sounds like you need to order beforehand so the parts can be shipped up from Florida, then you can pick them up in NY at the showroom without paying shipping.

There will be state sales tax I'm sure, but if they have a showroom it would seem like they'd at least stock the faster selling parts in NY.

Maybe if it is purchased from Florida and shipped to NY the sales tax will be exempted. Wayne

This is MAC's Antique Auto Parts at Lockport, New York. It is a very nice well laid out complex. These pictures are of the Show Room. It is just a shame that there are so many negative comments about them, as it is places like this that help keep our old Fords on the road. It needs someone with experience to help sort out their problems. Shipping seems to be the biggest issue, and that todays seems to be a worldwide problem that is not going to get any better.

FWIW:

Whether it is a Fried Chicken Restaurant, a large Supermarket, or a large Military Combat Unit, one (1) experienced, strong leader placed in position at the top, who has been handed free reins, and who has the knack to read subordinate attitudes, can make any poor or mediocre organization rotate 180 degrees in an extremely short period of time.
