Smile Living in the south with a Model A

Last week on Saturday we took a 300 mile tour in our A,s. We had a great time.
Today we took a 86 mile tour, the weather was great. It must have been about 70 degrees.

Same here "flamingo", I'm getting tired of shoving and blowing it. George, I'm jealous, could you send some of that warm weather up here to southern NY and Connecticut?

Thanks a lot! You make a guy with 5 or so inches of rain in one day feel bad! Guess at least I don't have 5 or so feet of snow.

break those chains!!!!
move south.
the census shows people are leaving the cold snowy wet regions in droves and heading south.
FL, SC, AZ, TX are big gainers, as well as other southern states obv.

1 million ppl move to Texas every decade.

Thanks for the warning Bill. I don't mind our 15 inches of snow here in snowy, blowy Canada because it means I don't have to cut the grass !

The guy I bought my Honda riding mower from moved to New Mexico, so he wouldn't have any grass to mow.

I hate mowing but once I made the move to a zero turn mower its almost fun and I have over 3 acres to cut. I also made the move south and it was a wonderful 74 today

I don't mind cutting grass on my little acre but only cut it about every 5 days. I just get on my John Deere 22 HP 48" cut set the cruise control and have at it. It does have cruise control but I never use it. I usually start mowing early April until sometime in Dec.

Geess , My little "Hole in the doughnut" in eastern Pa, It's a balmy warm, above freezing, and no more SNOW! There's about 3-4 " on the ground. Heavy fog last night. The grass isn't getting enough sun to grow and mow. Last night, I finally got some work done on my model A parts. Life is good!

Drove my 31 cabriolet to church yesterday morning, top down! Then to the shop where friends are helping me add a 24x30 model A room to a shop that I own with 2 friends. Started with a bare slab Saturday at 9 and finished the frame yesterday at 2. 80 degrees Saturday, 70 yesterday. Gotta love Texas!!!!!!

Refresh and the pix will update. When they clear the snow you can see the skaters.

20 inches on the ground and another 12 to 16 predicted today.

You folks south of the Mason-Dixon line get back to us on July 22nd. We may have our hot days in the summer - but at least we get a break occasionally.

Here in NW Kentucky no snow... just the gray days. Lots of 40 degree days with lows in 20's most the time in Jan./Feb. Some says in 50-60's ... March usually just wet.

2009 ICE STORM Lots of damage and we had no power for 19 days! Took months to clean things up.

I like snow when someone else has to move it except I did enjoy plowing snow when I lived in the Northland

Here in Maryland it got to the 60's yesterday, so I took both As out yesterday to run errands. It was funny, as I went to Safeway to do some shopping and some guy said to me, "Did you have a black car out earlier (my town sedan)?" I replied that I had, so I made my mark yesterday.

We have had little snow, but that doesn't keep the roads folks from salting everything. It was good to get the cars out for some exercise.

It rained a bit before daylight this morning . I got to enjoy the sound of rain on the roof for a short time. Its now a balmy 62 degrees, acording to the thermometer on my north deck. The sun peeks out every now and then. It'll probably warm to around 70 degrees before the day is through. We've still got more freezing temps before spring really sets in. A couple of weeks ago it was 12 degrees or a little less and we had to keep the water running to keep the pipes from freezing. We seldom get snow here . We once got snow here as late as early april. Still, there are plenty days that I could drive the model As if I wanted to.

Funny thread, until I got home from plowing last week only to have my wife show me three houses for sale in North Carolina! Saturday she was looking at the "Help Wanted" ads in the same area...

Maine, snow, darkness - its all getting on her nerves - or I am?

+17 degrees and snow coming down in southern Mass. Had 31" snow on the ground last week. New storm has added 12" today with another 10" to go. Had the barn roof scraped off Saturday and will need to do it again, can't take a chance with 3 Model A's inside. Sidewalk shoveled but snow pile goes higher than my 6 ft. stockade fence. Oh JOY !

Going to be in the mid-80's this week. Grass is growing. Model A's out and about every day!
Now, in the summer it's a different story. One feels the urge to move to the north coast.

By mid june here, it will be too hot and steamy to do much of anything outside except in the mornings. Spring and fall are the best, Summer is the worst .

While away, some "PHANTOM" has been mowing my front lawn, doing the dumpsters & left a huge bag of Hot Rod magazines. Guess he was AFRAID to go in the back where Buster T. resides! The Dog looks like a BLACK/WHITE Dolphin, as he "swims" in the 10" grass!
A bit of rain, more expected?? Worse drought in 100 or so years, that's tough, when we're known as the Food Basket of the Nation. We have the largest variety of crops of any area in the world!!

It's in the sixties here for the last couple of day. I was born and raised right here in eastern NC, and really do love my state. We do have some oppressively hot and humid summers, but that is to be expected in the South. I like to see at least one big snow in the winter and don't mind the cold days, as that means no bugs and no snakes! Even in the winter, we have a fair number of mild days.

BE THANKFUL! 5 inches of rain would make 50 inches of snow!

I have a good friend who escapes CT winters to Hardeeville SC. It is 69 degrees there today and the home prices their are very reasonable, so maybe . . .

Dammit! Where's that global warming we're suppose to be getting? I slipped on the ice going to my woodshed and almost through my back out. And how come my firewood seems to be depleting faster than other years.

I love living in the north country and will never move,I can take the cold but not the hot weather that the south has.. My parents retired to florida , when they passed away the house was left to the family.. I told my sister to sell it. Winter doesn't last that long and it gives me something to look forward to driving my A's and appreciate them in the spring summer and fall..

I took my Cabriolet to Church yesterday morning. It was in the high forties when I went and in the low sixties when I came home. Perfect Model A weather. I've found that Central Virginia is about ten degrees too cold in the winter and ten degrees too hot in the summer, but that's better than freezing or roasting, and I can drive my Model A virtually all year long. That said, the roadster is waiting until it's a bit warmer (don't use the side curtains).

I must state, nice weather hear in South Carolina. My wife and I, took the "A" out yesterday (Sunday) and cursed around the country side area of our homestead. We put on about 75 or so miles. We both enjoy this area. We both grew up and lived in upstate, N.Y., both retired - lived in Florida for a lot of years and now our main residence is here in S.C. and we are now known as - half backs.

Took my roadster on a 110 mile trip on Sunday. We had 2 Model T s roadster along. Great trip through the Ozarks south of Springdale Arkansas. It was 70 degrees here. We had a blast.

Some of you guys need to toughen up. Here in North Dakota we just laugh at the cold and snow and drive our Model A's around. In the summer I drive my 25 T roadster pickup. Just happy to have a couple of old Fords to drive year around!

The frogs were singing here in Lincolnton,GA Back at my former home in WV they don't start until April. As for prices on homes here in the south? they can't be beat. Bought this for $225000.00 which includes 14 fenced acres a barn and two double car garages. Just about to finish a training round pen for the horses.

Not so good here in Danville, the gardner cuts the grass weekly. Rain waters it once or twice a year. This time it was watered almost daily through December, then nothing till the bit we just had. Just enough to find the roof is leaking, I'm ready for a board and care with five care garage. Do they have those down south? 70's later this week. You'd hate it here, I'm sure. I miss the snow in my boots and changing the paper inside to cover the holes and not wear out my socks. Good old days! 3 miles to school, uphill both ways. Snow to my waist and wind in the face no matter which way you were going.

That is similar to what I was planning when I bought my 28 acres in Shenandoah Co, Va. The trouble was my daughter and grandkids wanted to stay in NJ. Sooo, My wife wanted to stay close, so here we are on my 2 1/2 acres in Pa. It's not bad (No personal property tax) but it's not really great. (Montana would be great!) I still have the 28 acres but it's planted in corn. I intend to leave it to my kids.

Dusty, great looking place. Congratulations on getting it. You are correct about the price.

Just a note from a thing that happened in our family and this is just for the younger set. Our son and his family decided that NC was a great place to move to because of the price of things, houses, rent, etc. But after spending a year there and finding no job to support his family, they had to move back to Oregon to make a fair living. But it is a great place to live and I am not being critical of your area. The only point is for a person wanting to get a job there, make sure you know of one and get it before moving.

Thank you, I completely agree, I would not be a young person looking for a job here. There simply are no great paying jobs for the most part here, most people seem to work in retail or service. But as far weather goes and if you are retired it is pretty nice. Also I can not believe how polite most people are and their willingness to help.

Same here Mike. Will take the cold anytime over real hot and I mean HOT weather! The kind that sweat is running down the crack of your arse just standing there doing nothing and your clothes stick to you like a wet swim suit. Heated garage fooling with old cars makes the winter go by pretty fast. News said 87 today in L.A.--- too hot too soon for out there.

I'd rather live in the far North but my wife says no. Ipad photo out the front door just now. That small bush just right of center was planted straight, yet Hurricane Wilma blew it sideways.

The South is great most of the time, but the Sun dont shine on the same dog's butt every day.
