Default Metal Valve Stem Installation

It appears that I have successfully converted my tubes to metal valve stems without them leaking !!

Now, when I look at the stem protruding through the rim, it just looks like there should be a washer and another nut on the outside of the wheel. Is that right, or is it correct that the valve stem just sticks up through the rim with no attachment.

Unfortunately, I have never observed a correct installation.

If you are installing original valve stems on new rubber stem tubes, Doc Kalinka wrote an excellent article with photos to guide you through the process in the Model A News some years back. I used the information to install original Shraeder 6300 valve stems on our 28 roadster. No leaks so far, and it's been years. March-April 2002 Model A News. Vol 49 NO. 2. Good luck.

Excellent article, Craig. Same as Doc's , except Doc uses tire patch glue to install valve stem to aid in sealing. I don't know if that is necessary or not.

Thank you Mike, I stumbled across it a while back and pass it along whenever I can. I hope all is well with you up there.

Seems like the glue might give the rubber a better chance of slipping. I'd do it dry.
