It started back in 1912 when Henry added front doors to the Touring car, called them Fore Doors

That is my belief as well, adding a little class to two door, tudor.

Henry the VIII was of the House of Tudor. Perhaps it was convenient that he shared his name with "Henry" Ford, and it sounded like "two-door", which it IS.

Tudor style houses were at a high point at the time the Model A came out, another factor the use of the term. Bob

If one thinks that's strange, a Coupe could be thought of as a Tudor with its rear end cut off.

The body style term Coupe was used during the horse & buggy days.

Mr. Chauvin makes an excellent point... the word, "coupe" comes from the French verb, "couper", which can be translated as "to cut", referring to the design in which the rear seat was removed (from the sedan) and the body cut in half.

Next lesson: proper pronunciation of "coupe".

How about CABRIOLET ?
Word Origins Dictionary came up with the following...
noun
1.a small two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage with two seats and a folding hood
2.a former name for a drophead coupé
Word Origin
C18: from French, literally: a little skip, from cabriole, from Latin capreolus wild goat, from caper goat; referring to the lightness of movement

If you study marketing you will find that the Model A was showing early signs of some of the very earlier marketing in the auto industry. The ads shown by Jim Thomas and the ad collectors of the Model A Restorers Club show some of the earliest ads directed to the "lady driver". The influence of Edsal Ford who was more of a marketing person than the old man would ever be made design and marketing improvements to the A. The ads point out for the lady and for the family for a sunday drive. Using European references implied elegance to the Model A. The word Phaeton was used on the fancy carriages in the early 1900's I am sure a lot of thought went into these names Tudor, Fordor, Phaeton etc. in a very early marketing plan for the New Car from Ford

Probably Ford trying to be classy by referencing the Royal Family of England! Kind of ironic for an "everyman" car!
