Default Generator bearing

When using a voltage reg. generator 40-48 on an early engine with fan on the generator pulley, is it necessary to change the front bearing to one that has side thrust ability? If so, anyone have a current part number.

The '39 Standard had a two brush generator (voltage regulated) and a generator mounted fan. I do not think it had a special bearing. Perhaps someone with access to a Green Bible can verify.
