Default gas tank install in a 41 ford sedan

I am in the process of installing a new gas tank (from Tanks) in my 41 ford 2 door sedan. My car already had the original tank removed along with the brackets. I purchased the bracket set and bolts from Bob Drakes. I'm not sure how the front bolt goes in or how the tank fits on the rear spring cross member.
I assume the front of the tank goes above the bracket, because the tank has caged nuts. I'm not sure if the spring goes between the bracket and bolt head or between the tank and bracket. Also I don't know if it is easier to install the tank in the rear brackets first or the front.I checked Vanpelts sales website parts drawings and the image isn't overly clear as to the order of the spring, bolt and bracket. Perhaps another Ford barner could post some pictures to help.
thanks

Default Re: gas tank install in a 41 ford sedan

I installed my Tanks tank in my '41 and it was a bitch. the original came out in no time and installation was a breeze but not so much with the plastic tank. Don't remember about a spring in the front(sold the car) but mine didn't have any caged nut or anything in/on the tank for the front bolt to thread into.so I had to fab. a part for the bolt to thread into. that done and on to the rear. mine had 2 "Z" shaped mounts that bridged from the frame to the tank. bolted the mounts to the frame and couldn't get the tank past the mounts. bolted the mounts to the tank and couldn't get tank/mounts past the frame to the top of the frame. after hrs of fighting it I finally got it in.
then went to the trunk to install my new sender and the Tanks sender hole in top of tank didn't match the opening in the trunk floor. I installed the plastic tank exactly as my stock tank was installed so I am assuming it was correct. Good luck and stay well.

Spring is typical there to allow frame movement and installed above the tank (tank above frame). Bolt it down well and add the cotter pin. Same concept with the radiator. The radiator doesn't ride on the spring. The spring allows for movement in the frame. You can add webbing/rubber strip between the frame and the tank also.
