Question Model A Rear Wheel Bearing

Does anyone have an actual model # or Timken number for a rear wheel bearing?

I was told by the local Timken franchise that they do not make a bearing for the rear wheel of a Model A. Wayne

I seen to recall someone listing it here just a few weeks ago. I wonder if a search would turn it up?

Yes I saw the thread where I believe Mike posted some PDFs, great info. I saw some other numbers, but unless I missed it I did not see any Timken info, so my apologies for asking again, but I didn't know if there was a specific Timken number for the rear wheel bearing for a Model A 28-31? I am seeing lots of things searching online, but not 100% sure what is correct. Thanks.

Or does anyone have a cross reference for Napa? My father-in-law works there and is not having any luck trying to cross reference anything.

I thought the number was mentioned in the recent thread about the rear wheel bearing that went bad, but that thread is already back on page 6. I went through it twice and didn't find the number.

Our local bearing and seal store is good for these things, but I just called Paul and he didn't know the number and said it was too old for him to look up.

Unless your in a big rush, why not just order bearing from Snyders or choice of parts suppliers. Snyders is in Springfield.

Because if I can get it through Napa I can get it much cheaper, that's the only reason.

It is a Hyatt number not Timken. I have been looking for the Hyatt number used in the 30's and 40's as I often find NORS bearings at local auctions. Rod

If NAPA can get the bearing, then I'd think they can look it up. I just tried a Google search for the number and still haven't had any luck either. My original bearings have always been good, so I haven't had to buy a replacement. I just looked in two catalogs and didn't realize the bearings were so expensive, at $42 each. That's why it's so expensive to rebuild rear ends with all new bearings.

There is no Timken number for that bearing. Ford B-1225, Bower J66-3657,
Hyatt 00536, SKF 00536.

You should be able to order from an industrial distributor.

The J-662456 rear wheel bearings mentioned above are on Ebay for about $28.00 with no picture of same.

About (7) years ago I noticed that I had a pitted rear wheel bearing race.

I had a new hardened sleeve installed on same.

Then, I ordered a Model A rear wheel bearing from a very popular Model A parts supplier; however, the rollers were smooth with no spiral recessed grooves like originals.

Old bearing looked fine, so I reinstalled the old bearing with spiral grooves.

Have no idea if "all" new rear wheel bearings have spiral grooves or not.

J66-2456 is the wrong bearing for the Model A, it is for 1936-48.
They use it when installing the sleeve in a worn Model A hub, it has
a smaller OD and width. J66-3657 (B1225) ID 2.0625 OD 3.1875
W 1.7188. J66-2456 (68-1225) ID 2.0625 OD 2.813 W 1.670.

Has anyone had any luck on buying the grease seal for the rear wheels at any local stores?

The original Hiatt bearings had the spiral because they were not solid rollers, but were wound flat stock, squared off at the ends. If you take one apart, you will see the rollers are hollow. I think the spirals help hold the grease. I prefer original bearing to the new replacements.
