Just for fun(!!!!!###**!!) if your car does 20mpg, and you drive 12,000 miles a year, in the UK the fuel would cost you $3600. The same fuel in the US would cost you $960.

Hi Everyone, In the DC suburbs I paid $2.09.9 yesterday. Using a discount I got from the grocery store it down to $179.9, unbelievable! Only bad part, I was putting fuel in the wife's car!

I'm 55 years old, and remember $0.33/gal or so when I used to fill up the mini-bike in the late '60's. Cigs were also the same price.

It's those "terrible" taxes that build and maintain our highways. I don't know about your roads, but here in CO we need lots of repairs.

About 2.25 for 87 octane at competitive stations in mid-eastern NY State. VT NH usually 0.20 less due to their lower state gas taxes. MA has generally been about same as NYS.

In HS around 1957 one could get name-brand for 0.25. Amico (long gone) white gas was most expensive. Many name brands incl Shell long gone from eastern NYS.

Drilling of new wells down significantly; lots of hard hats on the closet hooks. But they're still pumping and we still get tremendously long and hazardous CNR (Canadian Nation Railway) tank-car-trains coming through our cities and across our state from Balkins and Canada, all heading down along the Hudson River to NYC and NJ for refining and export. It ain't staying here !! Might as well run the pipe line direct to China.

Yes MrTexas your right the government [all] has their fingers right in it. NOW just after I posted I heard on the news that BP where putting their prices up by 14c might have even been 17c overnight, but point is they raised the price the next day by a whopping amount when fuel prices come down here they delay and it only seems to come down in 2c lots over weeks Pfft! its a very sad joke..

During the summer of 1969 our Texaco station sold Fire Chief gasoline for 29 9/10,
and Sky Chief for 31 9/10 cents per gallon.
We sold Havoline 10W-30 oil for .$75 per quart at the pumps.
In 1961/1962 Texaco switched from 5 quart oil cans to 4 quart size for oil
changes, in addition to the 1 quart cans. They also replaced our beautiful
round 'Banjo' sign with a new logo, revolving hexagon monstrosity in 1962.

$1.79 around Peoria area and about $1.75 in Iowa (Ia has less tax than us)

CEO of Shell was on news Wed. said 'Don't be comfortable with these prices. It will go to over $5.00/gallon in six months time and not come back down.' I suspect that is what they(oil companies) WANT to happen but Fox Business News says prices should stay down here at least until Fall of 2015, probably into 2016. They said the Bakken oil reserve in the Dakotas are soon going to make the U.S. the world's largest oil producer.

The Germans and Japanese are still working hard on electric and hydrogen powered cars. Good to have competition with oil.

Price in Minnesota, twin cities, is $1.99 per gallon. Some one mentioned gas taxes going to roads, here in Minnesota a good part of money raised with fuel taxes goes to public transportation subsidies.

Very true! A dime a gallon increase would create a lot of jobs and give us highways that don't knock your teeth out. Who'd notice a dime a gallon?

$2.41 a gallon for 86 octane. 3 or 4 refineries within thirty miles, and surrounded by oil wells. Go figure.

That might be OK if that is what they used the money for. Too much goes to bike paths, city buses, and stupid commuter trains like those in Houston and other liberal bastions.

I can assure you that oil companies don't want low prices. You think they want low prices? Dream on that they can somehow manipulate anything.

Our roads are pretty bad, especially in rural areas. Last year, vehicle fuel duty raised £25 billion. Road tax (annual levied on each vehicle) raised £6 billion. Gov't spent £7.5 billion on road construction and repairs.

The attached picture was taken in 2013. From there, the price went up to $1.69 a Litre. Todays prices are very much appreciated, but how long will they last?
