Question '46 59 generator #1

Have 2 generators, not sure which one is correct, am not a purest or trying to do a high point restoration but would like to have a correct generator. Have a series of pictures of both generators, which one is correct ? See 2nd thread following this one. This one has a part number of 21A 10139- 5 3 or 8, hard to see last digit, # is on the face of the generator behind the pulley

I am away from home, no access to parts books, but 21A prefix means that it was first used in 1942 and its actual use could be additional years which a parts book would clarify at a glance.

Your other generator picture shows a "id plate", I don't know the differences between canada production, but I have noticed a similar plate on later usa generators and starters ---perhaps the one with the plate is later production
are there any number-letter stampings on the field housing (date code), I know prewar ones have them, when I had the 46 and was collecting "spares" I didn't get any with the plate, they all looked like the ones in this post picture

no numbers anywhere else, numbers on plate are not readable, thanks for info. Did find another generator in my collection and appears to be the same one pictures in the V8 club '42-'48 Fords so going to use it

I would be certain that several companies made generators for FoMoCo during that time frame. The characteristics of the front mounting structure and type of pulley can generally be traced to some degree even though some were similar enough to be basically the same. Spare parts were made after 1948 for some time too. Illustrations in some of the parts catalogs give some info on the mounting parts and pulleys but not for all of them. I don't know if their are judging standards on these units or not but you have to go with the closest items you can find for judging purposes.
