Default Hand wiper question

Does anyone know if the nickel plated knob on a 28/29 open car or CCPU manual wiper is pressed on or screwed on? I have a couple wipers I need to remove the knob to get plated. Any suggestions from someone that has successfully remove a knob would be appreciated.

The knob is pressed on to the shaft.

The follow up question is how do you get the knob replated (nickel)? I don't think plating places can plate items unless they are by themselves, not attached to something else like the wiper shaft.

I would think you could mask the shaft and plate the knob without removing it. I had my parking brake handle nickel plated without removing the aluminum top piece, and it came out fine. I didn't even mask it.

You can also prepare the knob on the shaft and then mask off the knob and spray the shaft with acrylic primer. The shaft will not accept the plating, and you can simply use paint thinner to remove the primer from the shaft after the knob was plated..

Is a hand wiper correct for my '29 roadster ? According to the standards book for touring class I thought I needed an electric wiper.

springerpete,
It probably depends on what month, in 29, your car was made. If it was very early, it might have had a manual wiper. I would think probably even early 29's probably were equipped with an electric wiper like my early 29 phaeton - an OC-O1, OC-O2 or OC-O3, depending on what month your car was made. There is a chart in the JG's that show the wipers used in all years - page 20-2.
