Default '40 running boards

Reading the 1940 Ford book, "restoration guide" By the EV8 Club, it is not clear as the whether on not there was welt between the running boards and front & rear fenders. It is clear about welt between the boards and frame. This is not a restoration, but from a practical point what is suggested. Thank you Fordbarners.

My 40 coupe doesn't have any welt between the front and rear fenders and running boards.
Pretty sure it's correct. I suggest you don't use the welt at those locations. Looks out of place.
Curve is quite tight for a nice looking fit. Looks better without it.

Here's what the "pros" say when referring to pick ups.

NO welt between running boards and fenders. There was a piece of anti-squeak material placed between the boards and frame.
