Head gasket replacement
Age old question but I want a refresher. I need to pull the cast iron heads off my 49 8ba. Do I use copper spray on the new head gaskets and anti-sieze on the stud bolts?

Re: Head gasket replacement
Depends on what type of head gaskets you use. Sealant on head bolts. I use 3m weather stripping cement. Have used it on flatheads & the orange off brand for hundreds of engines with never an issue.

Re: Head gasket replacement
"Best Brand" head gaskets seem to highly recommended these days.
https://bestgasket.com/ Follow the directions of the manufacturer. As for sealer, Permatex non-hardening sealer has always worked for me. This is also a great head bolt sealant. I even mixed a dab of antiseize with the bolt sealer with good results. |

Re: Head gasket replacement
If you use Best Graphtite head gaskets they recommend permatex copper spray before installation. I have been using this combo for years on my supercharged 286" flatheads with great results.
