Default Not car related But.

Will be breaking ground tomorrow morning on my new 24x30 garage to keep my 46 ford in. I'm super exited about it. I had to remove a 12x16 two story barn with a 10 x 16 lean to first. Also removed a 20' blue spruce that leaned like the leaning tower of pizza and a humungo oak tree that I finished up today. Will have the excavating crew here in the morning to bust up the old concrete floor and dig the new foundation. I'm hoping we can get this done before the snow flies.

Sounds car related to me. Started mine at 24x24 and added to it twice, now it's 24x48 and still doesn't seem big enough.

SO FREAKING ENVIOUS!!! lol Congrats on the groundbreaking. Do you plan on adding a lift or anything? I saw a pretty cool used oil heating unit on "Two Guys Garage" the other day. Might be a good idea in ur climate! Plus you don't have to carry used oil back to the parts store....if you do it that way.

Great news, always heard that standing in a garage does not make you a car, I take exception to that,

I've built 5 garages in my life time. My 4th one was 28+40 with gamberal roof, just as big upstair as down. Full wood working shop up with partition and a play room. Down stairs I had all my cars and toys and didn't have no room to work. I finally learned to build out buildings for toy and cars not being worked on. My last one that I have now is perfect to work in. 28+36 one floor. Of course I have it full of engines and my dragster, and in the summer my 40 and my Model A. Now it's winter and my 40 and Model A is in my storage barn. There's never enough room. Walt

Since you brought it up, I have a 30 x 40 slab poured and the contractor will be here tomorrow to start erecting the building. My present building is 32 X 30 that I will keep. I was doing OK with it until I bought the second old Ford and now I'm always moving something that is in the way of something else. At my age I probably won't fill this one up before I can't play with old cars any more.

Man I saved & saved, quite awhile for enough money to get mine built. 25' x 30' metal & anchored in the ground with 36" rebar rods. Then I had a thick slab poured inside, the bottom steel track beams are covered in the slab, so it ain't going nowhere! The whole purpose of my garage is to hold all my junk & have a place to restore my truck. This is definitely car related!

Make the ceilings high enough so you can put in a lift.

24x30 is the biggest I could go due to property lines and drain fields. I am going with 10 foot ceilings but I don't thing Ill be doing the lift just yet. I am also going with a wood burner for heat seeing how a have a good supply of wood. I attached some picture of the tare down of the old barn and will post pictures of the progress.

You might as well go to 24X32 or 24X36. You will, probably, have some waste at 30.

I highly recommend insulation under the slab. With 2 inches of foam I never get condensation on the floor. Heat would be great but the insulation sure keeps the surface rust down.

I think you will need more than 10 ft ceiling for a lift. I have a 30x40 (to small) with 12 ft. ceiling and am not sure if there is room for a lift w/ storage for another vehicle under it. it will be tall enough just for a lift to only work on vehicles, but like I said not sure about winter storage below it in the raised position. I guess it would depend on the vehicle.----Jim
