Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
I have the opportunity to rent two of my cars with drivers to a movie company. Does anyone know the daily rate for a Model A and driver for film or movie production? Thanks, Wayne

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
I'm in a documentary movie right now with my AA ton and a half truck up in Missouri. The school up there is doing it and we all are just doing it to help them to make some money in this instance. I to would like to know what it pays if it were a different situation.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
I know we are in diferent countries but I rented my Pickup out for a film recently 3 days work without a driver I got £900 that's about $1,350 US I think the pay is good for a driver car but watch like a Hawk if it is a really nice restoration
The film was set in 1930's New York but actually filmed in Manchester England !!! You couldn't make it up !!!! John Cochran |

Be sure to check with your insurance company. Depending upon the company you may not be insured when driving to the film site and probably definitely not during the filming.

Renumeration for a one day TV beer commercial = $500 including lunch and dinner.
First thing they did was spray it with cocoa dust. Took quite a bit to get it out of the crevices. Couple of minor scratches. I won't be doing it again with a good vehicle.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
In 1968 thy were filming the "Maw Barker" movie in and around Yellville, Arkansas and a friend of mine rented his real nice restored 1928 cc pickup for what price I don't remember. They were to take real good care of it and did up to the point where they rolled it over and totaled it. It was planed to roll over but they failed to tell him about it. The insurance company that was used by the movie company paid off to his satisfaction but he said he was never happy with his last restoration, lost interest and sold the pickup.

Hey, I saw that one in the commercial.....cool.
cocoa dust takes the "new" look off it and helps with the lighting. |

Charlie's got a good point if you're getting paid for the use of the car. The insurance company may consider it falling into the commercial use class and if you don't have a commercial policy they could deny a claim.
I'm not sure if you would still be covered if you are the driver and you're not getting monetary compensation for it. |

I rented my '92 Explorer to 4 guys for a week of fishing 3 summers ago for $500. They took lots of pictures. Does that count?

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
When I lived in Southern Calif., me and my cars were in several movies, commercials, and magazine ads. I got 3-5 hundred for the Model As and as much as a thousand for the Packards. I also had a lot of fun and ate very well at their dinner breaks. One thing to remember is ALWAYS STAY WITH YOUR CAR.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
You should be paid your rental for the car. The person with it should be paid as an Extra.

$500 a day was what my brother got for Mildred Pierce by HBO.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
I provide cars for commericals all the time. We get $400 a day for a static display
and $500-600 a day for one that is driven. We also charge for drop off and delivery $1.50 a mile. Thats if they don't pick it up themselves. We also charge for individual props if they want period pieces to go with the cars. Also if its some very unusual car or race car we get more money.... Also the film company's carry insurance for damage or you work a some kind of payment for any damage. One time there was a 1930's Dodge Dog Catcher Wagon that was in a film and a Vintage Air plane was behind it. They started up the plane by spinning the prop and the block came out from under the wheel. The plane moved forward and started chopping up the Dodge Wagon. That guy got paid his daily rate the whole time it was in getting repaired at a shop of his choice. He was more that happy with the out come, got the whole thing repainted and several months of getting paid his daily rate the whole time.... |

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
I did a movie in 1995 call TWO BITS, Yes it was fun $ ???.00 per day, BUT I would not do it again !!!!! they spray your car with dulling spray so the shine does not reflect back in the camera. It was very difficult to get the dulling spray off the car, and the movie employees do not care about your car at all.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
Wayne,
I remember years ago our Missouri valley region was gun hoe in a movie shot here with members cars . It was "king of the hill". Many if the cars were permanently damaged , driven hard , doors slammed , paint made to look old with their auto makeup techniques . Is it really worth it . It was a horrible experience. Keep in mind the only thing they really care about is making the movie . No way would I ever do this with a car I value at all. The cars were an absolute mess and many broken when the movie was over . Use the cars for your enjoyment and choose another way to share them . Don't get caught up in the fact that your car would be in a movie . Larry |
