Default Fuel Pump Rod Question?

In order to remove the fuel pump and pump rod does it require the intake manifold also be removed? Anything special to look out for or is it pretty straight forward? Thanks

Just remove the pump stand and pry up the baffle with a sharp screw driver, the rod will lift right out, install a new gasket on the manifold before installing the rod and the baffle. Walt

Now I'm confused? I removed the intake manifold on the v8 60 to place the fuel pump and rod with new ones. I had ordered the replacement fuel pump rod from Mac's for the v8 60 with a aluminum intake manifold and found this rod is way to short. It hardly come up through the intake manifold. The one I removed is about an inch longer. The other rod Mac's sells is for the 60 with the cast iron manifold. It is the correct length but I don't have a cast iron intake manifold!
What's up with that? Maybe someone has run into this problem before?

I asked the same question a couple of years ago. Didn't replace mine because I'm going to replace the 60hp with a 276. Hope this helps.

As is often the case by following the numbers in the "green bible" there will be errors made due to utilizing later parts on earlier cars and lost information from earlier.
The rod for the V8-60 engines with the aluminum intake is 52-9400B ( 6 3/8") late 1937 - 1940)
The rod for early 1937 (cast iron intake) is 52 9400A (5 5/8") Cast iron were only used on the early 1937 engines.
Info from 1928-1937 Chassis parts list and1938-1941 chassis parts list and 1938 chassis parts list. Apparently Mac's is using the Green book for info and it is wrong.
Hope this help you.

In looking over my notes on this subject it appears the error occurred in the Ford 1949 issue of the Orange chassis parts book which was the forerunner of the 1950 issued Green chassis parts book. That was the first time they added the cast iron or aluminum reference to the pump rod except they got them turned around. Prior to that the only rod listed was the 52-9400-B (6 3/8")
