Default Waste of a day.....

Just spent six hours changing the rear spring on my 40 coupe......I put a Posies reversed eye spring in with a supposed 2.5" drop....it sits higher than before!!!

I'm cold and tired and Ive got a throbbing black nail.....what a disappointment...off for a soak in the tub and think about plan B.

Easy fix. TWO BAGS OF SAND IN THE TRUNK. If you ever get stuck use the sand. A double whammy

Naw, fat fender Fords get bigs and littles. Sand bags are for Shoeboxes.

I know it's frustrating, but drive around for 6 months and let it settle. Are you sure Posie sent you the correct spring that you ordered? Give them a call and explain your problem.

I was just thinking about when I put a similar spring in a 36 3 window I had, it sat perfect straight off the jack stands...then I remembered ,I only used the reversed eyed main leaf and fitted it to the stock worn spring pack.

Maybe a job for another day.....I'll wait until the memory of what a swine of a job it is ,fades a bit. Lol.

I'm certainly no expert but I'm getting ready to attempt the same thing, so I've been researching it quite a bit.

It is my understanding the 2.5" drop will only occur compared to a 'new' standard spring. If your old springs are worn out and 'flat', you may end up with exactly what you experienced. The best way to proceed from where you are now, I'm not quite sure.

Henry, If possible tell me the number of spring leafs in your original spring. Plus the spring leafs should be numbered. I will look it up in the Green BIble and see what it fits.

As stated the 40' Ford has only one rear spring that runs transverse ( side to side ) not the same setup.
How about posting some pictures of the engine in that Vedette (V8-60)?

What I do with throbbing black nails- take a pin and heat it red hot and gently push it through the nail... The underlying blood will keep the red hot pin from hitting any nerve... The relief is amazing.

I believe that's the oldest dirty trick in the book. I tried that once and about went through the roof with the pain. Fingernails DON'T melt, but they do transfer heat extremely well.

Get a sharp drill bit and cut through the nail. The blood will squirt in your eye and you get immediate relief.

The tiny drill bit will work, but as my nurse wife pointed out to me, no germs can get in before I drilled the hole. She made me sterilize the drill bit then seal the hole afterwards with super glue. It does give relief.

I agree with the hand operated drill bit. It sure feels good when you get thru the nail and the blood spurts out. I never used glue, but I can see the value of it. I will next time.

A white hot paper clip will work, you must immediatly touch the nail. A needle is no good, it cools to quickly. Also, useing a drill bit is asking for an infection, a white hot needle is sterile. It only hurts for an instant and releving the thumping pain is great.

Well, today was a great day...weather was very Springlike, and I decided to get out and get under again. The ride hight has bugged me all week and today I jacked the car up and removed the two top shorty springs and fastened them to the bottom of the spring pack to keep the pack the same size for the U bolt brackets.

I also removed the broken lever arm dampers......I dropped the car off the jack stands and took it for a blast around the neighbourhood......a bit bouncey with no dampers but the ride hight is now spot on....next job is to fit some tele dampers.

Happy days, and no self harm this week ha ha.

Well, according to "Junior Johnson" you can haul 132 gallons of shine in the trunk area of a 40 coupe . so if the spring does not come to where you want in height, that may work for ya ?
