Then disaster struck !
Having sacrificed Sunday lunch in my eagerness to cure the Model B of a nasty backfire through the exhaust I decided to take the car for a spin. The car went like a finely tuned Model 18. Arriving home I decided to write to FoMoCo and tell them how good this motorcar is and in Clyde Barrow style suggest that even today this would make a fine getaway car.
But,lo and behold, my enthusiasm to put pen to paper was dashed when I noticed that the Ford emblem on my shiny exhaust tip had become detached and was likely somewhere on the six mile stretch of tarmac on which I had travelled. My initial thought (in true Yankee style) was to sue the pants off the manufacturers of JB Weld whose product I thought would secure the emblem forever.....how wrong could I be! So back to the drawing board..... Watch this space ! |

Re: Then disaster struck !
Nice job of building the exhaust tip tiger. I would suggest that the JB didn't adhere to the finely polished surface, or the heat from the exhaust softened the resin. A forensic inspection of the area where the emblem was attached would reveal the answer. No JB; didn't stick to polished surface. JB residue; melted by heat. Your original emblem was eye popping, but laser engraving may be an option if you can't find the missing emblem.

51...as it happens, quite the opposite. The JB was securely stuck to the stainless steel
and was very difficult to remove. In fact I had to destroy the JB with a blowtorch .It had set like concrete ! Anyhow, all nicely repolished and ready for a second attempt. |

Re: Then disaster struck !
Perhaps drilling a couple of small holes will allow the JB Weld to flow through the holes and mushroom out and act like rivets.

Re: Then disaster struck !
Sounds like it was the emblem that didn't stick to the JB Weld. Maybe need to rough sand the back. You could also try some of that 3M VHB tape that they tape airplanes together with. I wouldn't think that the exhaust tip gets that hot that it would effect it. If you want to try the tape I could send a piece.

Re: Then disaster struck !
Thanks for the advice Barners. Yes it was the emblem that let go. Solder and stainless steel are not happy partners. However, I have another emblem on the go, once more adhered with JB weld. If this one lets go it's a simple and economical replacement.
OR....no emblem ! Photo tomorrow. |

I expect that a jealous Chevy owner now has this treasured piece on his kitchen table or fireplace mantle. Can't trust a guy who wears a bow tie. LOL

Re: Then disaster struck !
Maybe you can make a device to catch the emblem when it falls off. Then all you would have to do is glue it back on. I am very impressed with your deflector, by the way.
