Default Randy Gross rear backing plate install!

I installed the fronts last week. This weekend I was able to install Randy Gross' great work on the rear. Here is a quick video of the install:

https://youtu.be/qDUzYBwSV08

I decided not to remove the rear arms because I didn't want to mess up the paint. So instead I removed the rear radius arms, one side at a time, and that worked perfectly.

Let me know what you think or if you have any questions.
I am so happy I made the brakes a priority this year, and I'm glad Randy Gross was able to do them for me.

I think you sure have a lot of faith in those jack stands. I'd place something additional, wooden blocks or something, under the axles/differential just in case. I guess I'm a nervous Nelly.

Good job. I'm glad you grabbed the brass drift rather than beating on the threads. That just causes extra work, having to run a die over the threads later. Good luck and Congrats on the new brakes. You can follow me on any tour now! . Jeff

Yes I would love to do that. Not in the foreseeable future though.

Full rebuild of all four corners is going to be around $1,500 if you send them all out to someone else to be rebuilt.

These are prices I got just a few days ago.

Brake drums are $65.00 each
Brake shoes are $60.00 set of 4 (exchanged)
E Bands are $75.00 a pair (exchanged)
UPS Ground shipping of all of the above would be $60.00

We also have the studs and sell them for $1.00 each

We can also do all of the disassembly - cleaning - pressing and turning of your hubs on our drums.

This cost is $45.00 each and our service time is extremely fast. If your old drums and hubs come to us during a week day, then we do the work on a Saturday and ship out the following Monday.

I currently am in the process installing the brakes I got back from Randy Gross. As said in the video, they are a thing of beauty. My cost (from Randy) was less than what was quoted in post #9 above.

Removing the radius rods is the only way to go. In the video, those bolts would have come out a lot easier (without the brass punch) if he had removed the rear ones before he did the one at the front.

Only other thing I would have wanted different is if Randy had painted the drums before he sent them back to me. Not a real biggie, but I really don't have the capability (especially in the winter) of doing this type of painting. Much over my wife's concerns (read: objections) I ended up brush painting them in my dining room. (It's too cold in the garage or outside to do any kind of spray painting at this time of year).

FYI

Excluding the shipping cost, the pricing for both of the above jobs were the same except that jwilliams81 received a rebuilt service brake cross shaft.

Thanks to all for your support. Also thank you jwilliams81 for the You Tube videos. Great job and very informative.

Yep, $1,500 will get you backing plates restored on all four corners with new main pads, emergency pads. New cast iron drums. I also had him fix up my cross shaft. I think around $150-$200 was shipping back to me because I live in Ohio. The whole package is beautiful.

For paint I ended up using VHT high temp caliper paint in Gloss Black.
Here is the front, turned out great if I do say so.
