paint or clear coat
The chrome on the grill is peeling bad but do not have the resources to re-chrome. Was thinking of either painting or clear coating (kind of like the rough/shiny look of it). I have half wire brushed for a before and after, any thoughts??? If I paint is there a suggested way to get the rest of the chrome off or smoothed?

Re: paint or clear coat
Before and after.... Hammerite silver. The missing bottom grille bars I made from 1/2" copper pipe cut in half. The hammerite gave a sort of rough texture which hid the sanded down peeling chrome.

Re: paint or clear coat
Only way to get it off is at a chrome plater dip in acid bath.

Re: paint or clear coat
That '39 truck grille should have been painted, if your wanting the authentic original look.

Re: paint or clear coat
Dechrome it and have it powder coated silver with a clear coat if you like the chrome look.
Many new car and SUV aluminum wheels are done this way. |
