Default 38 truck windsheild

About ready to tackle windshield, anyone have pointers/tips? Frame is rusty an missing glass, remaining rubber is crumbling. Gasket is on the way, does bonded mean it's glued or just sandwiched in the frame? Any input is appreciated.

I just did my '39 and I found this thread very helpful:

Make sure you get the correct thickness glass setting tape and make sure the windshield frame channels that the glass fits into are completely clean. Also make sure the 8 screws that hold the windshield frame together aren't too long, if they are they will hit the windshield and crack it at least that's what the glass guy who sold me the windshield said and he was right about everything else. I had a buddy to help with the install. I'm sure that an experienced glass guy can do it solo but for me I needed the extra hands.

If it's rusty you may be better off to sell it and buy a better one.

Thanks for the info. My windshield frame on my 39 is rusty and the glass scratched. I have a used replacement but have been afraid to start. The screws are messed up. Someone put tinted glass in one side. I'm staying with the original at the moment.

My screws were toast but I bought replacement ones at Joe's. His kit had nine screws, the 8 to hold the frame together and one to hold the center bar. Some of the other kits only had 8 screws.

I think "bonded" means the ends of the gasket are glued so the gasket makes a complete loop. There is a lip on the gasket that fits in a groove in the frame. Go to extra effort to get all of the old gasket out of the groove. Make a tool to reach behind the lip if necessary. Lube the gasket with soapy water or such to install. Don't stretch the gasket.
